Institute of Legal and Constitutional Research

The St Andrews Institute of Legal and Constitutional Research is the home of outstanding cross-disciplinary research in the fields of law, legal history and constitutionalism at the University of St Andrews.

Founded in 2015, it unites leading scholars in history, international relations, and literature with early-career researchers and graduate students, in order to foster a vibrant community of twenty-first century researchers.

Particular expertise lies in the areas of legal history, global constitutionalism, and legal aspects of international relations.

The Institute sponsors and co-ordinates a wide calendar of academic events, cultivating dialogue and collaboration across a global network. A number of the Institute’s events are also open to the public.

With a broad and expanding range of links across Britain, Europe, North America, and beyond, we also host a number of distinguished visiting scholars for longer visits, lectures, seminars, and workshops.

Members of the Institute are leading participants in major international collaborative projects, in addition to providing teaching and supervision at St Andrews.

The Institute offers an MLitt in Legal and Constitutional Studies.
